As mentioned in a previous news item, the EU changed the rules for the EU Blue Card in 2021. The EU Member States had the time until 17 November 2023 to transpose these changes into their national legislation. However, The Netherlands needed more time.
Implementation in the Netherlands in spring 2024
Expectation now is that Dutch goverment will fully integrate the EU Blue Card changes into the Dutch legislation in the spring of 2024. However, the changes have already entered into force and are applicable to third-country nationals. Below you will find an overview of the old and new scheme so that you can learn what exact changes you can expect.
Overview of the EU Blue Card changes
As you can see in the table below, the EU Blue Card will become much more attractive for both employers and employees. The related salary requirement will still be higher than for highly skilled migrants and intra corporate transferees, yet the other conditions will be far more attractive. We think that with the EU Blue Card changes we will see more applications for this procedure.
